Alvin Hale of Mt. Juliet wipes his brow as he operates his fruit, vegetable, honey and jelly stand at Nonaville and Saundersville Rd. in Mt. Juliet. Hale said that he gets the produce from the farmers market, "Growing is too hard of work. I'm getting too old for that." A retired non-combat surveyor with the Army Corps of Engineers, Hale said, "I've been in 37 countries and lots of restaurants and I've found nothing I like better than fried green tomatoes." Hale said that his busiest days are Thursday through Sunday. |
