Col. Tom Dement, owner of Col. Tom's New, Used and Bruised appliances, moves a man-eating washer into greater visibility along Hwy. 41/70South in LaVergne. Dement said in his 23 years in business, this is the 10th set of legs he's had in an old washing machine. Sometimes the prop brings in more than customers. "One time I heard a car come to a screeching halt," says Dement, "and a lady came running saying 'Sir, sir, there's a man hung in the washer out there.' I told her, 'No, that's just a dummy.' Then she looked at me and said 'No, I'm the dummy.'"
